Martin Walsh
Martin Walsh (born November 8, 1955 in Manchester ) is a British film editor .
Life
Walsh grew up in Manchester. There he dropped out of school early and wanted to do something with architecture or photography. He was hired as an assistant at Cinephoto, a small industrial film company called Cinephoto , in Manchester, which was his first contact with film. Since the BBC had an editorial office in Manchester, he accepted a job there too and began editing articles. His first contribution was 30 seconds about a strike in a factory that was only "ruined by the fact that a journalist insisted on talking about it" (ruined only by the journalist's insistence in talking all over it!)
Since Hear My Song in 1988, Walsh has worked exclusively on Miramax productions. When he had a preview in New York for Iris , Chicago was mentioned in a conversation, which should be implemented after 15 years of planning. He was originally supposed to edit the British comedy Johnny English , but because of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , it was postponed, Walsh stayed in America and accepted the offer to Chicago. The result was the film, which not only earned him several nominations for important film awards, but also the Oscar for Best Editing.
Martin Walsh is a member of the American Cinema Editors .
