Mary Jane Leach
Mary Jane Leach (* 1949 in Vermont ) is an American composer .
Leach sang in the church choir as a child and played bass clarinet in high school . In the late 1970s she came to New York, where she joined the avant-garde music scene and studied music at Columbia University . After minimalist works, she turned primarily to vocal music in the 1980s. She became known as a composer of new music with works such as Celestial Fires (1993) and Ariadne's Lament (1998).
She has received commissions from ensembles such as the Fondazione ICO Tito Schipa , the Relâche group , The Downtown Ensemble , the Newband and the New York Treble Singers and soloists such as Emanuele Arciulli , Sarah Cahill , Guy Klucevsek , Shannon Peet and Libby Van Cleve . In 1995 she received an award from the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts founded by Jasper Johns and John Cage . Leach's works were u. a. Performed by Emanuele Arciulli and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Lecce , György Lakatos and the Trio Lignum , the Flemish Radio Choir , the Ensemble La Gioia , the London Concord Singers and the Swiss choir Vox Feminae .
