The Masjid-e-Aqsa ( Urdu مسجد اقصیٰ DMG masǧid aqṣā , German 'The Distant Mosque' ) in Rabwah ( Pakistan ) is the world's largest mosque of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community . With a capacity of 18,500 people, the mosque is the Friday mosque of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Rabwah. Despite its size, it is often overcrowded during Friday prayers.

history

The mosque was designed by Abdul Rashid

At the request of the 2nd caliph , Mirza Bashir ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad , a central mosque should be built in Rabwah. The construction plan was already in place during his tenure, but the foundation stone could not be laid because of the sick caliph. On October 28, 1966, Mirza Nasir Ahmad laid the foundation stone for Masjid-e-Aqsa. The mosque was opened with the Friday address of the third caliph on March 31, 1972.

Building and construction

The column-free main hall is around 1,650 m² and is reserved for men only. 650 m² of the upper floor are reserved for women and the remaining 1000 m² for men. Together with the 3,700 m² field, the mosque offers space for up to 18,500 worshipers. According to the caliph's request, the main minaret should be one meter higher than that of the Badshahi mosque , i.e. 55 m high. The Pakistan Air Force in Sargodha did not allow this minaret. The mosque now has a total of 6 minarets, four of which are around 20 m high and two are 12 m high.

The construction costs of around 1.3 million rupees were completely borne by Muhammad Sadiq Bani, whose name was only published after his death.

Nusrat Jehan Academy

The Nusrat Jehan Academy is a school complex with elementary, middle and upper grades, which is also located in the city of Rabwah. The school is owned by the Masjid-e-Aqsa . 99% of the students are children of Ahmadis. The school runs grades 1 to 10 and also offers after-school classes. The classes are separated by gender and take place in separate buildings for girls and boys.
