The Matreier Tauernhaus is a Tauernhaus in the municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol ( Tauer fraction ).

history

The Matreier Tauernhaus is the oldest valley accommodation in this area, it was once called Gastschwaig and has existed since early modern times (1562). It served as a hospital and hostel for those who walked the Felber Tauern (traders, haulers ) .

description

The Matreier Tauernhaus is a hotel. Next to it there is the corresponding paid parking lot for hikers, a chapel and a youth hostel.

location

The Matreier Tauernhaus is located at 1511  m above sea level. A. in East Tyrol ( Austria ) northwest below the Felbertauern tunnel south portal on the Tauernbach , which flows through the Tauern valley , in the Hohe Tauern National Park .

getting there

  • Arrival by car: about 2 km south of the Felbertauern tunnel south portal, the road branches off to the Tauernhaus.
  • Arrival by bus: "Matrei in Osttirol, Abzw. Tauernhaus" bus stop on the Kitzbühel - Lienz in Osttirol bus line. Travel time from the terminus in about 1 hour, there and in Mittersill you can change to the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn .
