Mats Gunnar Hessel (born March 13, 1961 in Sundbyberg ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player .
Career
Mats Hessel began his career as a hockey player at AIK Solna , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien , the top Swedish division, in the 1978/79 season . The attacker won the Swedish championship title with his team in the 1981/82 and 1983/84 seasons . In the 1985/86 season he rose with AIK in the second-rate Division 1 , but reached with the team in the following season , the direct promotion to the Elitserien. The Swede last ran for the second division club Rögle BK in the 1989/90 season , before ending his career at the age of 29.
International
For Sweden , Hessel took part in the U18 European Junior Championship in 1979 and the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo . At the 1984 Winter Games, he and his team won the bronze medal.
