Matthias Ruffert

Matthias Ruffert (born June 15, 1966 in Giessen ) is a German law scholar and professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

After graduating from high school in Wetzlar , Ruffert began studying law at the University of Passau in 1987 . After a stay abroad at King's College London , he moved to the University of Trier , where he passed his first state examination in 1992. After an internship at the European Commission , he completed his legal clerkship at the Kiel Regional Court from 1994 and passed his second state examination in Hamburg in 1996. In the same year he received his doctorate in Meinhard Schröder Dr. iur., as whose assistant he subsequently worked. There he also completed his habilitation in 2000.

After substituting professorships at the Universities of Freiburg and Mainz , Ruffert accepted an offer from the University of Jena to the Chair of Public Law, European Law and International Law in the 2002/03 winter semester . He held this position until he switched to the Humboldt University in Berlin in the summer semester of 2016. Since then he has held the chair for public law and European law. From 2008 to 2016 he was also a member of the Legal Advisory Board of the German Research Foundation . He was also a judge at the Thuringian Higher Administrative Court from 2006 to 2016 and a member of the Thuringian Constitutional Court from 2010 to 2015 . He was also a visiting professor at the universities of Paris XI, Sceaux (2006) and Toulouse I .
