Matthias Schuke

Matthias Schuke (born July 7, 1955 in Potsdam ) is a German organ builder .

Career

Matthias Schuke is the son of the organ builder Hans-Joachim Schuke . From 1962 he attended the "Polytechnische Oberschule 24", today Eisenhardtschule Potsdam, and graduated with the secondary school certificate. From September 1972 to June 1974 he completed his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker in the Richard Praetsch joinery in Potsdam-Babelsberg . In 1974 he began training as an organ builder at VEB Potsdamer Schuke Orgelbau , went through the areas of wood workshop, pewter workshop, restoration and intonation and completed his training in 1977. During this time, Matthias Schuke also completed his Abitur at evening school. From 1977 to 1985 he mainly worked in the field and in intonation. In 1985 he began to train as a master organ builder. In 1988 he passed the master's examination. His masterpiece , a 4-register chest organ, is today in the Erlöserkirche Potsdam .

In 1990 Matthias Schuke succeeded in reprivatising the company in the course of the political and economic turnaround and has been the owner and managing director of Alexander Schuke Potsdam Orgelbau GmbH since then .

In 1998 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany as a committed figure in German organ building .

In 2001, his company won first place in the Technology Transfer Prize of the Brandenburg State Technology Foundation, together with the University of Potsdam . The company also received the 2001 Professor Adalbert Seifriz Prize, a nationwide handicraft prize from the Steinbeis Foundation in Stuttgart with Reimund Gerhard-Multhaupt , University of Potsdam.

In 2003 Matthias Schuke decided to leave the old, too small workshop space in downtown Potsdam and to set up a new company headquarters in Werder (Havel) . In February 2004 the company moved into the new workshop. At the end of November 2017, he announced that he would gradually hand over the company to his sons Johannes (* 1985) and Michael (* 1989). The sons joined the company in 2018.

During his time as managing director Matthias Schuke was able to realize large projects with his company in the Erfurt Cathedral , the Lublin Philharmonic, in Zamora (Mexico) , in the Magdeburg Cathedral and in the Königsberg Cathedral . Also worth mentioning are the restorations he carried out on historically valuable organs, e. B. the organs of St. Stephan (Tangermünde) as well as St. Peter and Paul (Brandenburg an der Havel) and St. Marien (Angermünde) .
