Matthias von Stegmann

Matthias von Stegmann (* 1968 ) is a German actor , voice actor , dialogue book author , voice director , author and opera director .

Life

Matthias von Stegmann originally comes from the Munich area . He is the son of a Japanese woman and a German. His mother worked as a translator for television. In 1987 he graduated from the Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium in Gauting near Munich. He has been living in Bayreuth for many years now .

Career

Synchronous work

Stegmann began his dubbing career at the age of ten. He has appeared in television series such as Our Little Farm , The Bears Are Going On and Luzie, The Horror of the Road . At the age of 19 he wrote his first dubbed script, and at 20 he worked as a dubbing director for the first time. He wrote dialogue books and directed Cheers , Becker , The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones , The Nanny , Listen Who's That Hammering , Clueless , Mega Man , The Wild 70s , The Simpsons and Boston Legal . In addition, von Stegmann spoke for the horror film Braindead by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson , which was seized in various countries and appeared in 1992, the German voice of the main character Lionel Cosgrove , played by actor Timothy Balme .

After Ivar Combrinck's death in 2006, he took over his work as a dialogue book writer and dubbing director for the animated series The Simpsons , Futurama and Family Guy .

Opera

From 1991 to 2006, Stegmann was assistant director and director at the Bayreuth Festival . This activity then took him to the Royal Opera House in London and the New National Theater Tokyo . In Tokyo 2005, he directed Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung for children , 2007, Wagner -opera The Flying Dutchman and 2008 Weber's opera Der Freischütz . In 2007 he brought his Tokyo production of Wagner's Nibelungenring for children in German to the Vienna State Opera and in 2008 to the Zurich Opera House .

In 2009 he staged Giuseppe Verdi's opera I Vespri Siciliani at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest . In June 2010 Don Giovanni was shown at the Ural Opera in Yekaterinburg under his direction . In 2010 he staged Pünktchen and Anton at the Vienna State Opera (with opera director Ioan Holender in a leading role) and in 2011 Rossini's La cambiale di matrimonio for the Grazer Musikverein.

Further productions by Stegmann followed in 2011 with The Marriage of Figaro at the Klosterneuburg Opera and in 2012 with Lohengrin at the New National Theater Tokyo in Tokyo and Tristan und Isolde ( Wagner ) for the Minden Richard Wagner Association in the Minden City Theater, Minden .

In 2013 he staged Richard Wagner's early work Rienzi in Bayreuth as part of the celebrations for Richard Wagner's 200th birthday; the performance was performed in the Bayreuth Oberfrankenhalle under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann . In the 2013/2014 season, Puccini's Madama Butterfly came on stage at the Kiel Opera under his direction . In May 2015 he staged the work Matsukaze by the Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa at the Kiel Opera . In 2016 his production of Carmen followed at the Kiel Opera .

As a performer in an opera production, Stegmann was seen in 2003 (and also in 2008 and 2016) as Bassa Selim in Mozart's Singspiel Die Entführung aus dem Serail on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City .
