Maurice Peoples

Maurice Peoples (born December 17, 1950 ) is a former American sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he was part of the six-man US squad in the 4 x 400 meter relay , but was not used because the US team could not send a quartet into the race after John Smith was injured and Vince Matthews and Wayne Collett had been banned for their behavior at the awards ceremony.

In 1973 he won the Pacific Conference Games. He won the Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1975 and in San Juan in 1979 with the US 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 1973 and 1974 he was US champion over 400 m and 440 yards , respectively , in 1978 English champion over 400 m. Starting for Arizona State University , he became NCAA champion over 440 yards in 1973 .

His personal best over 440 yards of 45.11 s, recorded on June 9, 1973 in Baton Rouge , corresponds to 44.85 s over 400 m.
