Mauricio de Narváez

Mauricio de Narváez (born May 18, 1941 in Medellin ) is a former Colombian racing car driver and racing team owner.

Career

For many years, Mauricio de Narváez was Colombia's best-known and above all most successful car racing driver, only Juan Pablo Montoya overshadowed his successes. He competed almost exclusively in sports car races and made his first international appearance at the Sebring 12-hour race in 1975 . Twice he was able to win overall ratings. In 1981 he and Hurley Haywood won the 250-mile race in Daytona in a Porsche 935 , a race in the IMSA GTP series that year . His greatest success was winning the Sebring 12-hour race in 1984 , which he drove together with Hans Heyer and Stefan Johansson in a Porsche 935J that he had registered himself.

He competed four times as a driver for Joest Racing in the Le Mans 24-hour race . His best placement was fourth overall in 1983 . De Narváez ended his professional driving career in 1986 and has been President of the Colombian Automobile Club since 2013.
