Max Lüthi
Max Lüthi (born March 11, 1909 in Bern ; † June 20, 1991 in Zurich ) was a Swiss literary scholar and fairytale interpreter of the 20th century .
Life
Between 1928 and 1935 Lüthi studied German , history and English literature at the Universities of Bern , Lausanne , London and Berlin , where he passed the grammar school teacher examination in his final year . From 1936 he was the main teacher of German at the Höhere Töchterschule in Zurich . In Bern he received his doctorate in 1943 with the work Die Gabe im Märchen und der Sage . In 1968 the chair for European Folk Literature was created for him at the University of Zurich , where he worked until his retirement in 1979. In the same year he was appointed honorary professor. 1973 to 1984 he was editor of the Encyclopedia of Fairy Tales .
Max Lüthi's scientific estate is in the Zurich University Archives .
