Maxell Holdings, Ltd. ( Japanese マ ク セ ル ホ ー ル デ ィ ン グ ス 株式会社 , Makuseru Hōrudingusu Kabushiki kaisha ), or Maxell for short , is a company for the distribution and manufacture of storage media and batteries with headquarters in Chiyoda , Tokyo , and Ōyamazaki , Kyoto Prefecture , Japan .

The company describes itself as a " global player " and has subsidiaries around the world.

With its XL, XLI and XLII tapes, Maxell has a large fan base among tape recorder lovers. These tapes set a kind of gold standard in this community in terms of low noise and height control. Many devices are measured on XLI tapes, XLII tapes can only be used correctly by special tape recorders with switch position EE.

The German subsidiary is Maxell Deutschland GmbH . It also operates sales in Switzerland and Austria. In Germany, there is no production, only distributed. Distribution partners include large mail order companies such as Conrad Electronic and Otto-Versand .

The American branch is the Maxell Corporation of America (MCA) . In addition to sales offices, the company also has production facilities in the USA.

The company derives from the term " max imum capacity dry c ell " from to German "dry battery with maximum capacity".

Product lines

Manufactured batteries (button and cylindrical cells), and storage media such as tapes , diskettes , video tapes, CD - and DVD blanks, but also iPod accessories such as remote controls, microphones, headphones and battery adapter. Soundbars are also sold.

Optical storage media

The blank CDs sold by Maxell come mainly from Ritek , but also from Taiyo Yuden . The DVD blanks come from our own production facilities in Japan or are manufactured for Maxell by well-known manufacturers such as Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Ricoh and Mitsubishi Chemical .

Maxell also makes blanks for other brands such as Mori and Mediabox (Japan).
