Maximilian von Freyberg-Eisenberg
Maximilian Prokop Freiherr von Freyberg-Eisenberg (born January 3, 1789 in Freising , † January 21, 1851 in Munich ) was a Bavarian historian and statesman .
Life
Maximilian's father held the position of chief hunter at the prince-bishop's court in Freising . In 1789 the family moved to Munich. After graduating from high school in 1805 at the (today's) Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich , he studied at the University of Landshut from 1807 and later entered the Bavarian service. From 1825 he was director of the Bavarian Reich Archives in Munich, from 1835 he sat in the Chamber of Deputies and from 1842 to 1848 he was President of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . At times he was also the acting representative of the Bavarian Interior Minister Karl von Abel . He did not accept the position offered by the Bavarian Minister of Education in February 1847. In the turmoil of 1848 he lost his offices. Only the management of the publication of the Regesta boica remained entrusted to him. He spent the last years of his life partly in Munich, partly on his Jetzendorf estate . He died in Munich in 1851 .
Maximilian brought together the material on the family history of von Freyberg , on which his son Max Joseph (1825–1889) was able to build the two editions of 1859 and 1884.
