Maxine Brown (soul singer)
Maxine Ella Brown (born August 18, 1939 in Kingstree , South Carolina ) is an American soul singer who was particularly successful in the 1960s.
Career
As a teenager, Brown sang in New York gospel groups. 1960 their debut appeared Single All in My Mind , reaching # 2 on the US R & B - Charts . The successor Funny was also a top hit.
From 1963 Brown was signed to Wand Records , where she had a number of hits, including Oh No Not My Baby (# 24 on the pop charts). She recorded several duets with Chuck Jackson , including Hold On I'm Coming .
When she left Wand in 1969, her success subsided. In 1991 Maxine Brown received the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation .
