Mayte Mateos (2010)

Mayte Mateos (born February 7, 1951 in Logroño in the La Rioja region in Spain ) is a Spanish singer , dancer and painter.

Career

Mayte Mateos worked for four years with the Spanish television ballet before the qualified dance teacher was discovered in 1977 in a hotel on Fuerteventura together with María Mendiola . Employees of the Hamburg record company RCA were impressed by the dance and singing program of the duo Venus . Mateos and Mendiola spontaneously received an invitation to test recordings in Germany . These were successful, so that a short time later the pop duo Baccara was founded and the first single Yes Sir, I Can Boogie was produced. The piece became a worldwide hit in 1977 and later became an evergreen . Further international successes, including: Sorry, I'm a Lady , "Darling" and "The Devil Sent You to Lorado" , the Spanish version of which El diablo te mandó a Lorado became the most successful Baccarat title in Spain , followed. From 1977 to 1982, Baccara released 16 singles and five albums in the original line-up (Mayte Mateos and María Mendiola).

In 1982 the baccarat duo separated, Mateos began a solo career and her first records appeared as a solo artist, sometimes under the name Mayte Matée and Mayte Mathée. In 1983 Mayte Mateos re-founded the duo and released a few other singles as a solo singer, as well as the album Spanish Dreams produced by Anthony Ventura in 1989 . A re-release followed in 2004 as Noche Latina . Mayte Mateos wrote the lyrics for several of her solo titles as well as for some baccarat titles. During this time the Mayte Mateos started their second career. She began to paint and moved from Hamburg to Spain.

From 1999 Mayte Mateos again published albums as Baccarat , and the exhibitions of her pictures (including Emociones Libres ) in Spain were successful. Mayte Mateos received special attention as a painter in 2005 in Madrid, where her paintings were presented to the public as part of Los Colores de la Música (German: The Colors of Music ). Los Colores de la Música is a successful series of exhibitions in Spain in which well-known Spanish singers present their paintings in many cities in Spain every year.

With the song Soy tu Venus , Baccara took part in the Swedish Melodifestivalen in 2004 , the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . In 2006 "El diablo te mendo a lorado" appeared on the CD "The Very Best Of Baccara" for the first time in Germany. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Baccarat, SonyBMG released a 3-CD box in the summer of 2007 with some songs that were previously unreleased on CD.

In 2008, after more than 25 years , original Baccara producer Rolf Soja and copywriter Frank Dostal worked again with original lead singer Mayte Mateos. The result is the album Satin… In Black & White , released at the end of June 2008 . In addition to six new versions of their hits and a German medley ( Yes Sir, I Can Boogie (But only for this song) , I am a lady , and the devil sends you to Lorado ) there are six new pieces, including Simply Forget , Nights in Black Satin and (I Don't Want) to Lose Lautrec , included.

The Baccarat fan base is still large worldwide. Especially in Germany, Scandinavia, Spain and the states of the former Eastern Bloc . There are always concerts and television appearances there. In 2008, baccarat performed over 40 times in eleven different European countries.

In 2010, Baccara released their first Christmas song. The Christmas Medley was available for download.

In May 2013 Mayte Mateos released Yes Sir, I Can Boogie 2013 together with the Spanish band Sala & The Strange Sounds . The video clip for this premiered on April 24, 2013 on Spanish television.

In April 2016 the title Dame un Poco de Tu Amor (Fundacion Tony Manero feat. Baccara) was released as a download.

In total, Mayte Mateos has now released over 30 singles and ten international albums.
