history

The company was founded in 1983 as Brachmann & Linnemann OHG and renamed Medion, Brachmann & Linnemann OHG in 1985 . The company went public on October 2, 1998 . Up to 2004 the company recorded strong increases in sales, which in a few years were in the double-digit percentage range. After that, however, Medion also experienced the general slump in consumption and the dependence on a few large retail chains as customers, e.g. B. Aldi . This had a significant impact on profit and was substantiated with concrete figures at the Annual General Meeting on May 12, 2005. Bad results were also reported for 2006, and for the first time in the company's history a trading year closed with losses.

The annual report for 2007 published on March 29, 2008, however, showed a profit for the year with a slight increase in sales. Medion was back in the black in 2007 and was able to post an annual surplus of 20 million euros. The EBIT was 29.55 million euros. Sales rose by 3.4% to 1.66 billion euros.

At the beginning of June 2011 it was announced that the Chinese electronics group Lenovo would take over the company for a total of 629 million euros. The shareholders were offered EUR 13 per share in cash. The previous majority shareholder, CEO Gerd Brachmann, made use of the offer for the most part. He sold 17.75 million shares for around 230 million euros. In July 2011, Lenovo owned more than 75 percent of the shares in Medion.
