The Mennonite Heritage Village is an open-air museum outside the Canadian town of Steinbach in Manitoba . It was founded in 1990 and documents the life of the Mennonites who immigrated to Canada .

The approximately 17-acre museum consists of rebuilt and restored historical buildings from all over Canada and documenting the history of Mennonite immigrants to Canada up to the 20th century. There are, among others, several churches, a school, a blacksmith ( Blacksmith ), a sawmill ( Sawmill Shelters ), several shops, a historic granary and a Dutch windmill . Most of the buildings date from the late 19th century, as does the Mennonite school from the Canadian town of Blumenhof near Altona , which was completed in 1881 . The first built windmill from 1877 was destroyed by fire in 2000 and was rebuilt the following year with the help of Canadian and Dutch craftsmen. In the museum there is also a turf house , which was often used as the first dwelling by the newly arriving immigrants. Handicrafts, among other things, are sold in the general store. The museum also documents the creation and production of quilts .

In the Village Center, which was completed in 1990, there is a documentation that gives an overview of the Anabaptist-Mennonite history and culture of the last 500 years. The auditorium offers rooms for larger gatherings. In front of the Village Center there is a memorial in memory of the history of the persecuted Russian mennonites who emigrated to North America . The place where the museum is located was also founded in 1874 by Mennonites who immigrated from Russia. There are two more monuments to Jakob Höppner and Johann Bartsch on the site . The museum has a bookstore and a restaurant serving traditional Mennonite food.

In addition to the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach, there is another museum in Saskatchewan under the same name and a similarly designed museum in Ohio under the name Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center .
