The Mercado Nürnberg (from Spanish Mercado Markt) is a shopping center in the Schoppershof district of Nuremberg .

prehistory

The Linde Stadium used to stand at the current location of the Mercado . When the city of Nuremberg decided to build a new ice rink with Arena Nürnberger Versicherung , they initially wanted to use the vacated Linde site as a residential area. Since no investor could be found, the idea of ​​a shopping center came up in 1997, then under the name Linde-Center .

The demolition of the ice rink began in June 2001, the foundation stone for the Mercado was laid in October 2001, the topping-out ceremony was in November 2002 and the opening was celebrated on September 4, 2003. On the first three days of opening, 300,000 people visited the new shopping center. In the meantime, the Mercado has established itself as a shopping opportunity in the northern part of Nuremberg, also opposite the city center.

The sales area of ​​the Mercado amounts to around 20,000 square meters, the office space to 7,650 square meters. A total of around 80 specialist shops, including clothing, grocery and jewelry stores, as well as service providers, department stores, restaurants and cafes are housed on two levels. In the office area separated from the shopping center, doctors, a dance studio and the NRJ Nuremberg radio station can be found on 3 levels . There are 1650 parking spaces available. Mercado is owned by the open-ended real estate fund CS Euroreal, which is currently being wound up. The market value determined by an expert as of March 31, 2015 was € 138.7 million.

The Mercado Nürnberg is located in the northeastern outskirts of Nuremberg in the Schoppershof district , between Leipziger Platz and the intersection of Stadtring / Bayreuther Straße . In the immediate vicinity is the Nordostbahnhof transport hub , which is served by bus lines 30, 35, 45, 46, 49, 65 and 95, the underground line U2 and the regional train line R21 . The shopping center can also be reached by car from the Nürnberg-Nord exit of the A3 via Bayreuther Straße ( B2 ).
