Metaneira (hetaera)
Metaneira ( Greek Μετάνειρα Metaneira ) was in Corinth and Athens active Greek courtesan . Metaneira was known for her beauty and her shrewdness. As a child she was bought by Nikarete from Corinth . She was raised by this as an alleged daughter and trained as a hetaerae. So she was one of the "sisters" of the Neaira . Isocrates and Lysias were among her lovers . It was also Lysias who initiated her into the mysteries of Eleusis . Love letters he has received from him to Metaneira are very likely to be false.
