action

Jefferson Reed is a good-natured schoolteacher in Washington. His neighborhood is terrorized by a street gang, the Golden Lords . One night he tries to save a young woman from the gang, which ends up in having to flee the gang himself. He can escape by hiding in a dumpster. As he climbs out of the container, he is hit by a glowing green meteor. His spine was broken and he was seriously burned. A tramp takes a small fragment of the meteor. Reed wakes up in the hospital several days later, but when his bandages are removed, all of his injuries are miraculously healed.

Jeff quickly realizes that the meteorite also endowed him with extraordinary abilities. He can fly and has X-ray vision and superhuman strength. When he confides this to his parents, the two convince him that he has to use his strength to help the people in the neighborhood. His mother tailors a costume for him and as Meteor Man he takes on the Golden Lords and their leader Simon Caine. He closes a crack laboratory , prevents a robbery and unites the Bloods and Crips with the police.

The Golden Lords eventually learn the Meteor Man's true identity and find that his powers are weakening. After another attack by the Golden Lords on the neighborhood, the situation escalates. When the people of the neighborhood plan a deal with the Golden Lords , Jeff steps in and explains to the people that they must fight for their beliefs. Then Jeff fights Simon without his superpowers and is beaten up. Simon aims a pistol at Jeff to be shot when Jeff's neighbor throws a record at Simon, knocking the pistol out of his hand. Now the people strike back and the tramp who initially pocketed the small piece of the meteorite is now using it to disarm the Golden Lords . The tramp accidentally drops the fragment, which Simon and Jeff notice at the same time. Both get hold of a small piece and thereby gain superpowers. Thereupon a fight ensues, which the Meteor Man wins.

In the end, Meteor Man has to deal with drug lord Mr. Byers. But this is switched off by the Bloods and Crips , who come to the aid of the Meteor Man . Byers is arrested by the police.

criticism

“Action comedy that plays with the set pieces of thriller and science fiction. The deliberately unrealistic dramaturgy wants to make social problems visible, but their causes are drowned in the gossip. "
