Metropolitan Vickers was a British electrical engineering company based in Trafford Park , Manchester , England .

history

The company was founded in 1899 as the British Westinghouse Electrical and Manufacturing Company , a subsidiary of the American Westinghouse Electric Corporation . In 1917 she was accepted by the Metropolitan Carriage, Wagon and Finance Company ; and Vickers jointly acquired. It became Metropolitan Vickers in 1919 when Vickers took complete control. Metropolitan-Vickers was merged with the British Thomson-Houston Company in 1928 and the combined group was acquired by Associated Electrical Industries the following year . In 1960, Metropolitan-Vickers and the various other subsidiaries of Associated Electrical Industries were combined as one company.
