Life

Asar studied political science at Ankara University . He was arrested, charged and tortured twice during the military regime in 1971–1975. At the end of 1977 he moved to Germany with his wife. After studying “German as a Foreign Language” at the University of Cologne, he worked as a teacher and translator from 1980 until his retirement in 2014. In addition, he was an employee of the regional office for the promotion of children and young people from immigrant families (RAA) of the city of Duisburg and member of the committee for multicultural politics in the trade union for education and science in North Rhine-Westphalia .

After Fakir Baykurt's death in 1999, Asar took over the management of the Fakir Baykurt literary café , which the poet founded in 1992 as a working group under the name of the literary café in the international center of the VHS Duisburg.

Literary works by Asar himself have meanwhile been published in several books and various, also national newspapers and magazines, for example in the TAZ .

His “mentor” Fakir Baykurt once assessed “Mevlüt Asar's lyrical charisma” as “rich. Because of the ambiguity of his verses he wins the affection of the readers ”.

For the Westfälische Rundschau, "a lot of the homelessness of his personal biography" is reflected in Asar's poetry, the quintessence of which is "exercising togetherness, getting closer and singing songs together". (Siegener Zeitung)
