Meyers Patrick Leonard (born February 27, 1992 in Robinson , Illinois ) is an American basketball player . He has been active in the NBA for the Miami Heat since 2019 .

Career

college

Leonard played two seasons at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2010 to 2012 . After completing just 8.2 minutes per game in his freshman season, he ended his sophomore season with an average of 31.8 minutes per game, 13.6 points and 8.2 rebounds .

NBA

In the 2012 NBA Draft , Leonard was elected 11th by the Portland Trail Blazers . In his debut season he scored an average of 5.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in 69 games. In his second season at Portland, Leonard lost a large part of his playing time to Joel Freeland . In 40 games he was now on the field for an average of only 8.9 minutes.

In his third season, Leonard got more playing time again due to an injury to Robin Lopez . He finished the season with an average of 15.4 minutes, 5.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. In addition, Leonard hit 51% of his throws, 42% of his threesomes and 93% of his free throws . In the 2015/16 season Leonard played in 61 games and started in 10 of them. After that season, Leonard signed a four-year contract with Portland for $ 41 million.
