Michael Sattler Peace Prize

The Michael Sattler Peace Prize has been awarded by the German Mennonite Peace Committee (DMFK) since 2006 . With the Peace Prize named after Michael Sattler , the DMFK occasionally honors groups, projects or people who have campaigned for peace and reconciliation with their practical commitment or theological thinking. Michael Sattler was executed at the stake in Rottenburg am Neckar in 1527 for his non-violent peace certificate.

The award ceremony usually takes place in Rottenburg , Sattler's place of execution. In 2013, the award ceremony took place for the first time in the former monastery of St. Peter in the Black Forest , where Michael Sattler worked before he converted to the Reformation Anabaptist movement .

German Mennonite Peace Committee

As a body of work Mennonite communities was German Mennonite Peace Committee in 1956 in response to the German rearmament founded. After the Second World War , the German Mennonites tried to reconnect with the pacifist theology of the early Mennonites. With reference to the Sermon on the Mount , the Mennonites of the Reformation already stood for nonviolence .
