Michael Adolf Roth (born August 13, 1935 in Kitzingen ) is a former German entrepreneur and former football functionary. He was president of 1. FC Nürnberg from 1979 to 1983 and from 1994 to 2009 .

Career

Roth grew up in Bad Windsheim . At 15 he began an apprenticeship with his father, a scrap dealer. In 1956 he founded the home textile company ARO Heimtextilien , the company is an acronym for his initials. In February 1979 he took office for the first time at 1. FC Nürnberg. He had previously served on the club's board of directors since November 1977. After almost five years in office, he resigned on December 20, 1983. On October 25, 1994 he was re-elected President of 1. FC Nuremberg.

During Roth's tenure, 15 coaches worked, including Klaus Augenthaler , Felix Magath , Wolfgang Wolf , Hans Meyer and Thomas von Heesen . It was during this time that 1. FC Nürnberg won the DFB Cup in the 2006/2007 season.

He was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit in 2002 and the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2006.

On June 8, 2009, Roth resigned as president of 1. FC Nürnberg. Roth wants to withdraw more into private life and concentrate more on the work in his textile company. On October 13, 2009, he was appointed honorary president at the ordinary general assembly.

At the end of August 2015, his textile company had to file for bankruptcy and be wound up.

Michael A. Roth lives with his wife and children on an estate in Rückersdorf near Nuremberg.
