Michael Schneider (born August 10, 1953 in Nordhorn ) is a German recorder player and conductor .

Life

Michael Schneider studied flute , recorder and violoncello at the Cologne University of Music and also took recorder lessons with Walter van Hauwe in Amsterdam. In 1978 he won the ARD International Music Competition in the field of recorder and has since performed as a soloist with numerous well-known orchestras. In 1979 he founded the Camerata Köln chamber ensemble , with which he made over 50 records with works by Antonio Vivaldi , Georg Philipp Telemann , Georg Friedrich Händel , Giuseppe Sammartini , Giovanni Battista Sammartini , Joseph Haydn a . a. grossed.

In 1980 Schneider became professor for recorder at the Berlin University of the Arts . Under his artistic motto “Making the unheard audible”, he advocates the discovery and re-performance of forgotten masterpieces from the Baroque, Early Classics and Viennese Classics. B. for the rehabilitation of the symphonic composer Franz Ignaz Beck .

Michael Schneider gives master classes at home and abroad, u. a. at the "Jerusalem Early Music Workshop", at the Paris Conservatory, at the Stockholm University of Music and the Summer Academy for Early Music Innsbruck.

Awards

In 2000, Michael Schneider was awarded the Georg Philipp Telemann Prize of the state capital Magdeburg .
