Michael Scott (writer, 1959)

Michael Peter Scott (born September 28, 1959 in Dublin ) is an Irish writer. He wrote some of his books under the names Mike Scott or Anna Dillon .

Life

Scott originally wanted to be a librarian , but when his father passed away at the time of his graduation, he worked as a bookseller for Webb's bookshop (Dublin) and other booksellers to support the family. He began writing in 1981 and his first book with Irish legends was published in 1983. In 1991 he was the official writer in residence of Dublin, which that year was named European City of Culture . He writes for adults as well as for children and adolescents, a large part of his work consists of collected Irish and Celtic myths and fairy tales as well as fantasy novels. He wrote romance novels under the pseudonym Anna Dillon (the name of his wife) and was for a long time more successful than under his real name. In total, he has written over 100 books so far, including short stories and screenplays. His novel The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel (German: Der immortliche Alchemyst ), a fantasy book for young people, reached number 2 on the New York Times Bestseller List in 2007 in the category of young people's books. The following volumes in the series The Secrets of Nicholas Flamel were also very successful.

In addition to his writing activities, he holds workshops and writing classes in libraries and schools in both Ireland and America. He lives in Dublin, is married and has two children.
