Michael Struck

Michael Struck (* 1952 in Hanover ) is a German musicologist, music critic and pianist.

From 1973 onwards, Struck had studied school music, piano, instrumental pedagogy, musicology, educational science at the Musikhochschule and Universität Hamburg with corresponding degrees (1st state examination, state-certified private music teacher, diploma examination piano). From 1983 to 1985 he completed his legal clerkship in Hamburg and completed his training with the 2nd state examination. In 1984 he received his doctorate with the controversial late instrumental works of Schumann. Investigations into the origin, structure and reception. In 1985 he took up a position in the Lower Saxony school service, then switched to two pilot projects for a new Johannes Brahms Complete Edition at the Musicological Institute of the University of Kiel (1985–1990 / 91) as a research assistant. He helped set up the Brahms Research Center at the Musicological Institute at Kiel University. Since 1991 he has been a research assistant and member of the editorial team at the Kiel Research Center for the Johannes Brahms Complete Edition. His research focuses on the following subject areas: “Interdependence of analytical, work genetic and philological issues; Music in the emigration, editorial projects ”. Struck has published numerous publications on the work of Robert Schumann , Johannes Brahms , Berthold Goldschmidt and Johann Abraham Peter Schulz . In addition, he published the Johannes Brahms Complete Edition. In his work as a pianist he has given numerous concerts in collaboration with the vocal ensemble and the student choir of the University of Kiel as well as with the Wiesbaden Chamber Choir. From 1993 to 1998 Struck was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Carl Maria von Weber Complete Edition. From 1990–2000 he was a member of the culture commission (section music) at the minister for education, science, research and culture in Schleswig-Holstein; since 2000 he has been a member of the board of trustees of the Schleswig-Holstein Cultural Foundation.

Together with Reinhard Kapp , Michael Struck received the Robert Schumann Prize of the city of Zwickau in 2009 for his doctoral thesis from 1984 on Schumann's late work.
