Michael Wörrle

Michael Wörrle (born November 6, 1939 in Stuttgart ) is a German ancient historian and epigraphist .

Wörrle was born in 1964 with the dissertation Investigations on the Constitutional History of Argos in the 5th Century BC. Chr. In Erlangen at Helmut Berve doctorate in ancient history. From 1979 until his retirement in 2004 he was the first director of the Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy of the German Archaeological Institute .

Wörrle, who enjoys international renown above all as an epigraphist, is primarily concerned with the Hellenistic and Roman history of Asia Minor and the inscriptions found there (especially in Lycia and Aizanoi ) .
