Michal Martikán (born May 18, 1979 in Liptovský Mikuláš ) is a Slovak canoe slalom driver in the Canadian single.

Michal Martikán has been among the world's best in his sport since the 1995 World Championships in Nottingham , where he won bronze medals both individually and in teams. He won his first world title in 1997 in Três Coroas . There he also won team gold. Further world championship titles followed in 2002 in Bourg-Saint-Maurice , 2003 in Augsburg (again double gold) and 2007 in Foz do Iguaçu . He won silver in 2006 in Prague , bronze in La Seu d'Urgell in 1999 and in Penrith in 2005 . At the European Championships in Krakow in 2008 , he won gold with the team and in the individual. In many cases he took top positions in world cups. He was the athlete who, at the age of 16, was the youngest winner of a World Cup.

He celebrated his greatest successes at the Olympic Games. At the age of just 17, he won the gold medal for the first time at the 1996 Games in Atlanta . This was also the first gold medal for Slovakia after the division of Czechoslovakia . In 2000 in Sydney and 2004 in Athens Martikan won silver behind the Frenchman Tony Estanguet . At the Games in 2008 in Beijing , he again won gold and in 2012 in Beijing, he won the bronze medal. In terms of the number of medals, Martikán is the most successful slalom canoeist in the individual competitions of the Olympic Games. In terms of value, however, it is behind Estanguet, who won his 3rd Olympic gold with the victory in London in 2012.
