Michele Benso von Cavour , Margrave of Cavour, Cellarengo and Isolabella (born December 14, 1781 in Turin , † June 15, 1850 ibid), was an Italian politician and father of Camillo Benso von Cavour .

life and work

He was born in Turin as the son of Marquis Giuseppe Filippo and Josephte Françoise Marie Philippine de Sales. Coming from an old family, which at that time was highly indebted, he joined the French army after the Napoleonic invasion of Piedmont in 1796 and fought against the Imperial Army under the command of General Schérer in the Battle of Verona in 1799 Austria.

During the Napoleonic era, he was lieutenant and adjutant to Thaon di Revel in 1800 . He then settled in Florence with his uncle Uberto and later in Geneva . After coming into contact with the Geneva financial world, he took various initiatives to restore family wealth. In 1805 he married Adele, Marquise of Sellon d'Allaman from Geneva. The sons Gustavo Filippo and Camillo emerged from the union . With the support of Count Tancredi Falletti von Barolo , Cavour received the title of baron in 1809.
