Michele Rugolo (born August 31, 1982 in Montebelluna ) is an Italian racing driver .

Career

Rugolo began his motorsport career in karting in 1994 and was active in this sport until 1999. In 2000 he moved into the single-seater racing and competed in the Italian Formula Renault . After finishing 20th overall in the first season, he was seventh overall in 2001. In 2002 Rugolo also took part in a race of the Italian Formula Renault, but his main focus was on Formula Nissan 2000, in whose drivers' classification he was 13th.

In 2003 the Italian switched to sports car racing and finished 14th in the SR1 classification of the FIA Sports Car Championship . He also competed in a race in the Italian Super Production Car Championship and finished eleventh in the LMP 900 classification at the Le Mans 24-hour race .

In 2004 Rugolo returned to formula racing and competed in the Italian Formula 3 championship . Rugolo won a race and finished the season in fourth place in the championship. He also made his debut in the international Formula 3000 championship at the last race of the 2004 season . At Durango Corse he replaced his compatriot Matteo Meneghello and could not finish the race.

In 2005 he again found no cockpit in formula racing and instead competed in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). The Italian was seventh overall. He also took part in two races in the Italian GT Championship and won both. In 2006 he returned to formula racing and again competed in the Italian Formula 3 championship. This time Rugolo won two races and, like two years before, ended the season in fourth place overall. In 2007 he took part in half a season of the FIA GT Championship and was 14th in the overall standings with a podium finish.

In 2008 Rugolo moved to the International GT Open and he won a race in the GTA classification. He finished his first season in ninth place overall. In 2009 he competed the season together with Giacomo Ricci and was able to win a race. The two stood on the podium in half of all races and finished fifth in the championship. In 2010 he competed in both the Italian GT Championship and the Superstars GTSprint.
