Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux

Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux (born August 9, 1938 in Notre-Dame-de-la-Doré , Québec , † February 2, 1985 in Montreal ) was a Canadian composer .

Coulombe Saint-Marcoux studied piano and harmony with François Brassard from 1956 to 1958 and piano with Yvonne Hubert from 1960 to 1963 , music theory with Françoise Aubut and composition with Claude Champagne at the École Vincent-d'Indy . Then she was a student of Gilles Tremblay and Clermont Pépin .

In 1967 she was awarded for the composition Modulaire a Prix d'Europe and lived 1968-70 in Paris, where she electronic music with the Groupe de Recherches Musicales of ORTF studied and classes with Pierre Schaeffer at the Conservatoire de Paris took. She also had private lessons with Gilbert Amy and Jean-Pierre Guézec .

Together with five musicians, Coulombe Saint-Marcoux founded the Groupe international de musique électroacoustique de Paris (GIMEP), with which she went on concert tours through Europe, South America and Canada until 1973. Two of her compositions, Bernavir and Trakadie , were premiered by GIMEP in 1970.

After her return to Québec, she founded the ensemble Polycousmie with the percussionists Guy Lachapelle , Pierre Béluse and Robert Leroux , which was dedicated to the combination of electronic music, percussion and dance. With the group she took on a program for the series Sons et images of the CBC , another appeared the following year with Jean Laurendeau at the Ondes Martenot . Her composition Ishuma , a commission from the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec , was broadcast by the CBC in 1976.

Coulombe Saint-Marcoux taught at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec from 1971 to 1984 . She was also on the board of the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada (CAPAC), the Canadian Music Center and the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ). She was recognized by the Canadian Music Council in 1985 for her work and contribution to the musical life of Canada.
