Mies Bouwman, 1979

Maria Antoinette (Mies) Bouwman (born December 31, 1929 in Amsterdam ; † February 26, 2018 in Elst (Utrecht) ) was a Dutch television presenter and was considered the grande dame of television entertainment there in the 1960s .

Career

Bouwman was the daughter of the managing director of the broadcasting company KRO . After a successful moderation test, she became the moderator of the first television evening of the KRO on October 16, 1951.

In the Show Open dorp het (German: Open the village '), she hosted, along with Arie Klapwijk, over 23 hours of continuous TV show in order donations for the construction of the village , a quarter for disabled children in Arnhem to collect . This required 16 million guilders , which she was able to bring in. Promised donations were added later, so that a total of 50 million guilders was reached.

Bouwman has worked for various broadcasting companies ( KRO , AVRO , VARA ). Well-known shows from Bouwman are Zo is het toevallig ook nog eens een keer , Mies en scène , Eén van de Acht , Telebingo , Een mens wil op de vrijdagavond wel eens even zitten en een beetje lachen want er is al genoeg ellende op de wereld , Mies , In de hoofdrol and Kom er maar eens eighth .

In 1993 Bouwman finally ended her television career and she became a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau .

Private life

Mies Bouwman was married to the director Leen Timp (1921-2013), with whom they had a son. She lived in Elst, Rhenen . In May 2009, Mies Bouwman successfully underwent heart surgery.
