Milton Holmes

Milton Holmes (born July 30, 1907 in Syracuse , New York , † September 19, 1987 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter , actor and film producer who was nominated for the Oscar for best original screenplay .

Life

Holmes began his career in the Hollywood film industry as an actor in 1927 The Wreck of the Hesperus by Elmer Clifton , in which he starred opposite Sam De Grasse , Virginia Bradford and Francis Ford . By the mid-1930s he starred in eight other films such as in Die neue Heimat (A Ship Comes In, 1928) by William K. Howard , The Godless Girl (The Godless Girl, 1929) by Cecil B. DeMille or also People in the hotel (Grand Hotel, 1932).

In 1943 he made a film for the first time: the romantic comedy Mr. Lucky , directed by HC Potter with Cary Grant , Laraine Day and Charles Bickford , was based on his story Bundles for Freedom .

For the film drama Crooks and Gangsters (Salty O'Rourke, 1945) by Raoul Walsh with Alan Ladd , Gail Russell and William Demarest , he was nominated at the Academy Awards in 1946 for the Oscar for best original screenplay.

Holmes also produced four films based on his scripts between 1947 and 1961. He also wrote the scripts for the 34-part television series Mr. Lucky with John Vivyan , Ross Martin and Tom Brown .
