The Minangkabau language (autonym: Baso Minang [kabau] ; Indonesian Bahasa Minangkabau ) is an Austronesian language spoken by the Minangkabau people on western Sumatra , the western part of Riau , southern Aceh , the northern part of Bengkulu and Jambi , as well as several Is spoken of by emigrated Minangkabau traders and restaurateurs in cities across Indonesia .

The Minangkabau Language is also an official language along the western coastal region of the province of North Sumatra , and also in parts of Aceh used where the language Aneuk Jamee is called. Minangkabau is also spoken in part of Malaysia , namely in the Sultanate of Negeri Sembilan .

Lately, Minangkabau has been increasingly replaced by the Indonesian official and sole language of instruction, Bahasa Indonesia , as more and more speakers are adopting Indonesian as their mother tongue. The same applies to Minangkabau in Malaysia, where it has been replaced by Malay and English .
