Mirela Rahneva (born July 26, 1988 ) is a Canadian skeleton pilot .

Career

Mirela Rahneva is from Bulgaria and moved to Canada with her family in 1997. She played rugby during school and college at the University of Guelph , and began skeleton in 2012. She started in the North American Cup for the first time at the end of the 2012/13 season , where she was tenth twice in Lake Placid . In the following season she started in five races of the season and was able to record 6th place as the best place, again in Lake Placid. In the winter of 2014/15 she took part in all eight races of the season in the North American Cup for the first time and won four times. With placements between 2 and 8 in the other races, she was able to win the overall standings ahead of Lauren Salter and Grace Dafoe . She also started in the North American Cup at the beginning of the 2015/16 season and initially finished two thirds in Whistler . Then Rahneva switched to the European Cup and won both races there in Sigulda and St. Moritz . In the overall standings she was second behind Janine Becker .

In the winter of 2016/17 Rahneva made her debut in the World Cup and already achieved a place on the podium with third place at her second start in Lake Placid .
