Mirfelderbusch or Mirfelder Busch is a forest area and a district of the same name Mirfeld in the large municipality of Amel in the German-speaking east of Belgium . Today there are 4 houses there. The place is located about 1.5 kilometers northeast of Mirfeld on the N658 national road from Amel to Büllingen . The forest area on both sides of this road extends between the neighboring villages of Heppenbach and Möderscheid . The wider area is characterized by agricultural grassland. There are also some well-preserved bluestone crosses in Mirfelderbusch , all of which can be dated to the late 18th century.

history

Since the 16th century there has been evidence of a large, annual cattle market in Mirfelderbusch, the Aegidiusmarkt . Every Monday after the Aegean Day , up to 1,500 head of cattle were rounded up there.

During the Battle of the Bulge , an American supply warehouse was set up in the forest; thus the Mirfelderbusch was a strategically important point for the Americans.

tourism

There is a private museum in Mirfelderbusch that exhibits historical agricultural implements, some of which date back to the 19th century. The collection includes 2500 exhibits.

An alleged well-known mineral spring, the Lincksborn , is located at the northern exit of the forest.
