A mixed breed dog (just "mixed breed" or casually "mix" for short) is a dog whose parents do not belong to the same or no breed .

In the narrower sense, mixed-breeds are primarily understood as dogs that arise from unintentional or uncontrolled matings. Targeted crosses between different breeds of dogs are called hybrid dogs .

The playful name mongrel was inspired by the walks ( fr . Promenade ) of the maids in the 18th and 19th centuries with the dogs of their rule that made its course the nature of the animals carried, so this uncontrolled copulating could.
