Mitchell Block

Mitchell W. Block (* 1950 or 1951 ) is an American film producer specializing in documentary films .

Career

Mitchell Block received his Masters of Fine Arts from New York University . Block's career in the film business began as a producer on the film Death by Invitation in 1971. Two years later, the short film … No Lies followed, which was awarded the Silver Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival .

Block was executive producer on the Oscar-winning film Big Mama . For his participation in the documentary short film Poster Girl , Block received a nomination at the 2011 Academy Awards for Best Documentary Short . He received an award from the International Documentary Association for the film. The short film was also nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy Award .

He is the president of Direct Cinema, a documentary film production company.
