The Mittelaletsch bivouac was an unstaffed Bivouac of section Diablerets of the SAC , which was completely destroyed in the winter 2018/2019 by an avalanche. It is uncertain whether and when the bivouac will be rebuilt.

Location and surroundings

The bivouac, built in September 1977 and inaugurated on June 4, 1978, was located at an altitude of 3,013  m below the Dreieckhorn above the left edge of the Mittelaletsch glacier .

ways

Approach

The approach is from Bettmeralp or from Fiescheralp / Märjelen, crossing the Aletsch Glacier. Then you climb up the Mittelaletsch glacier to the former location of the bivouac box.

Alternatively, you can get there from Jungfraujoch via Konkordiaplatz, the Aletsch Glacier and the Mittelaletsch Glacier.

All approaches are to be rated as high-altitude tours in terms of length and character .

The Mittelaletschbivak was the starting point for climbing the Aletschhorn , the Dreieckhorn and the Vorderen Geisshorn .
