Mohamed Salman Al Khuwalidi

Mohamed Salman Al Khuwalidi ( Arabic محمد سلمان الخويلدي, DMG Muḥammad Salmān al-Ḫuwailidī ; * June 18, 1981 in Al Dharan , Ash-Sharqiyya Province ) is a former Saudi Arabian athlete .

He started athletics at age 14 and focused on the long jump when he reached 7.11m three years later. By 1999 he improved to 7.55 m, but then took a two-year hiatus because he had got a job at Saudi Aramco and the training program didn't give him time.

In 2002 he jumped eight meters (8.18 m) with wind support for the first time, and in 2003 for the first time without wind support (8.02 m). In 2004 he became the first Asian indoor champion, but missed the Olympic Games in Athens because he failed to surpass the A-norm.

At the Islamic Solidarity Games in Mecca in 2005 , he won on April 13 with the Asian record of 8.44 m and thus improved by 32 centimeters, but then had to sit out the rest of the season injured. In 2006 he set the current Asian record with 8.48 m and came second at the World Athletics Finals and third at the World Athletics Cup .

The following season brought a setback because his employer no longer released him. Although he was Asian champion, but retired at the World Athletics Championships in Osaka in the qualification.

In 2008 he won the Asian Indoor Championships and won bronze at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Valencia and missed the second round at the Olympic Games in Beijing by an inch. He was third at the world finals.

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he did not get beyond qualification.

Mohamed Salman Al Khuwalidi is 1.88 m tall and weighs 82 kg. He is trained by Messaoud Bouhouche.
