Momčilo Perišić before the International Criminal Court, 2011

Momčilo Perišić (born May 22, 1944 in Koštunići, zu Gornji Milanovac , Serbia ) is a Serbian military man, most recently in the rank of Colonel General . He was Chief of Staff of the Yugoslav People's Army from 1993 to 1998 .

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia Perišić had been indicted in 2005 for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Bosnia and Croatia. Unlike other defendants, Perišić immediately surrendered to the Hague Tribunal. He was sentenced in the first trial on 6 September 2011 by the Hague Tribunal to 27 years in prison for his leading role in the siege of Sarajevo , a rocket attack on Zagreb and political involvement in the Srebrenica massacre . The court, chaired by Bakone Moloto , found the war crimes and crimes against humanity allegations proven.

He was acquitted of all charges on appeal on February 28, 2013 , and the verdict is final. Although Perišić was aware of war crimes, the support of the Yugoslav People's Army for the Army of the Republika Srpska (VRS) was of a general nature and did not serve to support war crimes. In the first procedure, it was constructed that he could give orders to the VRS, so that the unused discipline constitutes tacit complicity .
