Mona Røkke

Mona Røkke (birth name: Mona Scobie ; born March 3, 1940 in Drammen , Buskerud ; † July 13, 2013 in Tønsberg ) was a Norwegian politician of the conservative Høyre , who was a member of the Storting for twelve years and was Minister of Justice and Police between 1981 and 1985 the Willoch government . Later she was from 1989 to 2010 District President ( Fylkesmann ) in Fylke Vestfold .

Life

Lawyer and local politician

Mona Scobie, whose parents Randal William Scobie and Aslaug Høyendahl worked as managers, began studying law at the University of Oslo after attending school in 1958, completing it in 1963 with the academic degree of Candidatus juris (Cand.jur.). Then she was a traveling salesman in Drammen and Oslo between 1964 and 1971, before she was a police officer in Drammen from 1971 and 1973 and a judicial officer in Kongsberg between 1973 and 1974 . After a brief activity as a lawyer in Drammen, she was again in the police service from 1976 to 1977.

At this time she began her political career in local politics and was from 1971 to 1975 member of the local council of Drammen and then until 1979 member of the local council. As such, she was vice-chairman of the building committee from 1975 to 1977 and vice-chairman of the cultural committee from 1976 to 1979.

Engagement in women's politics, member of the Storting and Minister

At the same time, she was chairman of the Høyre women's association in Drammen from 1974 to 1975 and of the women's association in Fylke Buskerud from 1976 to 1979 . From 1975 to 1979 she headed the Political Committee of the Høyrekvinner Landsforbund , after which she chaired the association until 1985.

In the parliamentary election of September 12, 1977 , she was elected for the first time as a candidate for the Høyre in the Storting, she succeeded in re-election in Fylke Buskerud until 1989. In the legislative period 1977/81 she sat on the judicial committee. In addition, she was from January 1979 to January 1980 member of the delegation of Storting in the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO and since 1979 chairwoman of the working group law of the Høyre.

On October 14, 1981, Mona Røkke was appointed Minister of Justice and Police by Prime Minister Kåre Willoch and held this ministerial office until she was replaced on October 4, 1985 by her party friend Wenche Frogn Sellæg . In this role she headed the inter-ministerial polar committee. In addition, she was first vice-chairman from 1986 to 1987 and then from 1988 to 1990 chairwoman of the Høyre in Drammen. She was also vice-chairman of the European Movement International in Norway ( Europabevegelsen i Norge ) from 1986 to 1988 and then vice-chairman of the Norwegian Cancer Association ( Den Norske Kreftforening ) between 1988 and 1993 .

Two years before she left Storting, Mona Røkke was appointed District President ( Fylkesmann ) in Fylke Vestfold in October 1987 and held this position from 1989 until her retirement in March 2010, her successor being Erling Lae . In 2000 the President of the Republic of Lithuania , Valdas Adamkus , awarded her the Gediminas Order for her many years of service . In 2005 she became the commander of the St. Olav Order .

At the same time she was vice- chairwoman of the advisory board of the Norsk Folkemuseum between 1989 and 1997 and chairwoman of the committee for strengthening legal protection for mentally disabled people from 1990 to 1991. She also served as chairwoman of the corporate meetings of the Telenor telephone company from 1994 to 2005, and vice-chairwoman of the advisory board of the State Agricultural Bank ( Statens Landbruksbank ) and the Agricultural Development Fund from 1994 to 1999 . In addition, from 1997 to 2005 she was Chair of both the Reindeer Advisory Board and the Reindeer Development Fund.

Since 2011 Mona Røkke has been chairwoman of the Fund for Reparation for Former Children in Care in Vestfold.

Personal

Mona Røkke was divorced and had two grown children and four grandchildren. She was diagnosed with cancer for the first time at a young age. A second time in 1986 during her time as Justice Minister and Storting MP, after which she was sick for almost a year and had to interrupt her work in part. In 1986 she wrote down her personal experiences with cancer and her time as minister in the autobiography Ingen tid for tårer ( Eng .: No time for tears).
