Monika Fludernik

Monika Fludernik (born March 6, 1957 in Graz ) is an Austrian English scholar and literary scholar .

Life

Monika Fludernik completed her studies at the University of Graz , where she received her doctorate in 1982 under Franz Karl Stanzel . Funded by an Erwin Schrödinger scholarship , she spent a year abroad at Harvard in 1987/1988 . In 1992 she qualified as a professor at the University of Vienna with a paper on the representation of speech and thoughts. Monika Fludernik has held the chair for English literature at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg since 1994 . She was vice dean of the Philosophical Faculty from 1995 to 1996 and dean from 1999 to 2000. She declined calls to the University of Vienna (1999) and Freie Universität Berlin (2010). She has been a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2000 and a full member of the Academia Europaea since 2008 . She was also the spokesperson for the Collaborative Research Center 541 Identities and Alterities. The function of alterity for the constitution and construction of identity , which was promoted from 1997 to 2003.

Fludernik made important contributions to narrative theory . In addition, she has also researched in the fields of post-colonial literary theory, literature of the 18th century, law and literature studies and leisure within the framework of the SFB 1015. In 2001 she was awarded the Baden-Württemberg State Research Prize for her work in narrative research .
