Monroe is a city and county seat of Ouachita Parish in northern US -amerikanischen state of Louisiana with 48,815 inhabitants (2010). Monroe is located on the east bank of the Ouachita River and forms the "Twincities of northeast Louisiana" with the city of West Monroe on the west bank .
In the area around Monroe are several of the oldest known structures in North America, mounds from the middle archaic period . The sites of Watson Brake south of the city and Frenchman's Bend north are among the most complex earthworks of this era.
From 1926 to 1941, the city was home to Delta Air Lines . In the east of the city is the Monroe Regional Airport . The city is the seat of the successful Duck Commander company , which was founded and run by Phil Robertson . This later became known through the television series Duck Dynasty .
