The Mont Cervin Palace is a five-star - Hotel in Zermatt in the Swiss canton of Valais . It is a member of Swiss Deluxe Hotels and the only hotel in the Leading Hotels of the World in the village of Zermatt.

history

In 1852 State Councilor Joseph Anton Clemenz from Visp opened the Hotel Mont Cervin with 14 beds for guests. In 1857 it was leased by Alexander Seiler I ; In 1867 it became his property. After his death on July 10, 1891, his widow Catharine Cathrein continued to run the family business until her death in 1895.

The second generation

Alexander Seiler II

Alexander Seiler - 31 years old, lawyer and councilor - took over the company and founded the company "Gebrüder Seiler" with his brother Hermann. In 1908 Alexander II converted the company into a stock corporation . In 1909, the economic peak of the group, he had over 1200 guest beds, including the leased businesses. Alexander II died in 1920 at the age of 56.

Hermann Seiler, the youngest brother of Alexander II, took over the company and ran it until 1943.

The third generation

Joseph Seiler II and Franz Seiler, both sons of Alexander II, took over the Seiler Hotels in the middle of World War II . In 1966 Theodore E. Seiler, the youngest son of Alexander II, joined the board of directors. During his tenure, renovations and improving services were at the fore. In 1955 Franz brought Bernhard Seiler, the fourth generation into the company. For 15 years he was the operational director general.

The fourth generation and today

The fourth generation of the Seilers has been running the family business since 1982: Roberto Seiler as President and Christian Seiler as Delegate of the Board of Directors. In 2005, after some renovations, the Mont Cervin was named a palace and in 2007 a further branch was added with the “Le Petit Cervin”. In 2007 Jelmoli Holding took over 83.5% of the share capital. In March 2009, Roberto Seiler resigned as Chairman of the Board of Directors and handed over the reins to Michael Müller for seven months; For the first time in the history of the Seiler Hotels, no Seiler presided over the company.

In October 2009 Christian Seiler took over the chairmanship of the Seiler Hotels and managed it until December 2011. During this time, Jelmoli Holding was split up, switched to Athris and, in June 2011, sold to Credit_Suisse . In 2012 the hotel was renovated for several million. In 2017 the main restaurant and the hotel bar were completely renovated. All family apartments were renovated in 2019. Today the hotel presents itself in a modern alpine style. In autumn 2019, the majority of Seiler Hotels AG was taken over by Aevis Victoria SA. Aevis Victoria SA also includes the Bellevue Palace in Bern, the Eden au Lac in Zurich, the Victoria-Jungfrau Hotel in Interlaken and the Crans Ambassador Luxury Sport Resort in Crans-Montana.
