The Gare Lucien-L'Allier is the second most important train station in Montreal after the Gare Centrale . It opened to replace the neighboring Gare Windsor after it was cut off from the rail network in 1993 due to the construction of the Center Bell ice hockey stadium . Only local trains operated by the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) run from the station .

history

Until 1993 the trains operated from Gare Windsor , the former main station of the Canadian Pacific Railway . After the passenger transport divisions of CPR and the rival Canadian National Railway had been taken over by the state railway company VIA Rail , this gradually brought together all train connections in the CN main station Gare Centrale . Gare Windsor was finally shut down in 1993 when construction of the Center Bell ice hockey stadium began on its track field . As a replacement, the construction of a new terminus was started, attached to the Center Bell. Originally, the name of the new station was to be Terminus Windsor , but due to the risk of confusion with the old station, which no longer has train connections, but still has access to the subway, the underground city , the Bell Center and the new station, the name Gare Lucien-L'Allier was determined based on the neighboring street . L'Allier was the chief engineer for Metro Montreal . In 1996 the station went into operation with the line to Hudson , the trains to Saint-Jérôme and Candiac followed in 1999 and 2001 respectively. In 2008 the entrance hall was redesigned.

traffic

From the station there are only local AMT trains to Hudson, Saint-Jérôme and Candiac. They run bundled to the Montréal Ouest train station. The station is part of a transport hub connected to the underground city, which also includes the subway station of the same name and the Terminus Center-ville bus terminal . There are also direct connections to the main train station and the Bonaventure metro station .

future

  • It is under consideration to move the AMT trains from Saint-Jérôme to Gare Centrale instead of Lucien-L'Allier in order to speed up the journey time. Previously, the line curved around the Mont Royal from the north, now the trains would run through the Mont Royal tunnel .
  • The AMT is planning a connection to Pierre-Elliott Trudeau Airport , which will be implemented between 2013 and 2015. However, it has not yet been clarified whether the trains will stop at Gare Centrale or Gare Lucien-L'Allier.
