Combined anchor and mooring winch on a seagoing ship

A mooring winch (from English mooring - Creating, fix), and mooring lines called morning glory, serves when mooring a vessel on the mooring for coiling or tensioning the mooring lines . The cable winch can be driven electrically, hydraulically or with steam. Mooring winches are also often used as an anchor winch .

Today, the electrical version is usually designed in such a way that it keeps the ropes ( running rigging ) under tension even during the tidal range as well as when loading and unloading ("unloading") the ship according to a set setting.
