Morfudd ferch Urien
Morfudd ferch Urien [ 'morvið verx' irjen ] ("Morfudd, Urien's daughter") is the name of a female legend from the Celtic mythology of Wales .
mythology
Morfudd ferch Urien is in the story Culhwch ac Olwen ("Kulhwch and Olwen") the daughter of King Urien of Rheged , her mother is said to be Modron according to the Trioedd Ynys Prydein ("Welsh Triads") .
Another triad tells of Morfudds love for Cynon fab Clydno , a prince from the Hen Ogledd (Welsh: "the old north"). Cynon was one of the leaders in the "Battle of Catraeth" (Cataractonium, Catterick , Yorkshire). However, apart from this mention, no Welsh saga has been found on the subject, although a 14th century poet alludes to it.
In the poems of the Welsh poet Dafydd ap Gwilym (* ~ 1320, † 1350) a girl named Morfudd is sung about, but this has nothing to do with the legendary figure.
